The aim of the intraocular therapy with Avastin is to decrease vision loss in a number of diseases: macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, eye blood vessel disorders, excessive myopia, etc. With some patients vision is improved, with others the losses are irreversible but the therapy preserves their current condition. After local anaesthesia the drug is injected into the vitreous (a jelly-like substance) of the eye. Avastin intraocular injections are applied at regular intervals as prescribed by the ophthalmologist (between 4 and 6 weeks). Follow-up of patients is done by OCT and fluorescent angiography.
