This specific modern laser procedure is used for removal of secondary cataract (thick film on the lens capsule). This type of film can be found in patients with first generations intraocular lenses or many years after a cataract surgery. It is performed with a device called LASEREX through a special contact lens. A topical anaesthetic in the form of eye drops is administered into the eye. Rare side effects are transient increase in intraocular pressure, macular edema and deposits on intraocular lenses. The procedure is painless and quick and both eyes can be treated during the same visit.
